Welcome to Songwind, a world of magical tails--tales. And pint-sized heroism. This story was dreamt up by Jon and I about a month ago. We were looking for something for him to actually draw continually, a comic project of his own. Up until then, I'd had him working on random designs for the website, t-shirts and Darwin Cookie. His style, as you may have noticed, is whimsical, at times it's surreal, distorted at others.

 

We have a very unique creative process; I just talk and talk, and talk...and the next day he shows me the sketches he came up with going off of what I said. It works, mostly. And hopefully we'll be able to create an enjoyable comic experience worth following.

 

We plan on officially starting Songwind in the next couple of months. We're looking to update bi-monthly and should be on that schedule by the summer. It's taking more time than we expected to get the sketches and the starting pages finished up. The writing process is ongoing and the story will most likely change continually as we continue to work on the project.

 

Songwind is actually the city from which the main character, Rain, calls. And yes, Rain is a mouse. A magical mouse. Not unlike Mickey, but completely different. Cooler and more violent. His co-characters are a thieving raccoon, yes, a raccoon... a magic grenade throwing mouse--named Dwynwen. Filling out the opening cast are characters such as Rain's cousin and his arch-enemy, two sword toting mice with a long standing family grudge. As the story progresses, more characters will be introduced, hopefully at a rate that allows us to get to know each character that has relevance to the story.

 

The world of Songwind is a mixture of steam-punk and magic. Imagine a world with gears, fireworks, bicycle helicopters, floating sail boats, armored lizards and birds of prey...cutting to the point, we have a lot of ideas and have had fantastic feedback from family and friends and hope to bring everything we can to the story without overcrowding it.

 

The city of Songwind is a part of a greater "rodent" nation, which is part of a larger world with wonders we hope to explore in the next few years. As far as the forseeable future is concerned, we will be focusing almost entirely on Songwind or the area directly effecting and affected by it.
